Karpinia designs are now being installed on the walls of the parish hall. It is an adaptation of Lithuanian paper cutting, a 16th century art used for weddings and special events. By the end of the 19th century this was widely used for decorations at home to cover windows, trim a shelf, a lamp or a mirror frame. The main motif is the image of trees in bloom with the stork – the national bird, perched on top, surrounded with stars, sun and moon. To make a donation for the hall renovation, you may click the donation button or mail a check to St. Casimir's Church and on the memo write Parish Hall. Thank you very much for your generosity.
The long awaited repair and interior painting of our parish hall has began. For the initial phase, wood panels which have been badly tampered and scratched by nails, staples and tapes will be fixed and revarnished while the walls and ceiling which have been falling off will be replastered and refinished. Afterwards, there will be new painting to make the hall brighter. Le Grande Studios who did the church renovation and the restoration of Pasadena Civic Center, Los Angeles City Hall and other churches in the Archdiocese will do the work. A contractor is fixing the roof which has been causing major leaks to the stage, dressing room and kitchen. This is another project initiated by the pastor, to make our campus an inspiring and better environment for gathering and fellowship as one community of God. It is also our intention to prepare the hall as the only center of Lithuanian art and culture in the west coast that could be shared with people of other nationalities. Literature and the arts are important in the life of the Church. They reveal man’s place in history and in the world; illustrating his miseries and joys, needs and strengths foreshadowing a better life. They elevate human life, expressed in multifold forms according to various times and regions. As such, the Church allows them as they raise the mind to God. The knowledge of God is better manifested and the preaching of the Gospel becomes clearer to human intelligence and shows itself to be relevant to man's actual conditions of life (Gaudium et Spes). The Church has always translated the universality of the Good News into the language of art. St. Casimir Church recognizes every work of art as an inspiration of the divine and sacred that leads the viewer or listener to a deep spiritual, cultural and historical experience. To make a tax deductible donation, write a check payable to St. Casimir Church and on the memo: Parish Hall. You can either mail or drop your donation to the rectory.
