During these difficult and trying times, the faith of our parishioners becomes strong as we hope for better days ahead. Our prayers sustain us with the fear, restrictions and separation around us. God will always take care of us. He is our help and shield!
These were initially planned before the pandemic to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of St. Casimir’s Church in Los Angeles. Please consider a tax deductible donation. Without your support we will not be able to continue the different work.
As of date, the stained glass windows have been repaired and polished. The walls were enhanced with opaque crosses of Lithuanian pattern representing a unique craft in the villages. The erection of crosses known as cross crafting in front yards and farms; is a popular manifestation of faith, love and sacrifice. The Hill of Crosses – one of Lithuania’s most sacred places is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Two art works welcome worshippers – on your right is the royal crown of St. Casimir, Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It is held with lilies, symbolizing the chaste and pure life of this young saint, giving up his kingly privileges for the poor. On the left is the double crown of Our Lady Gate of the Dawn, bestowed as the Queen of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
The devotion room in progress - include the map of Lithuania and the saints - Andrew Bobola, Raphael Joseph Kalinowski, Teofilius Matulionis, Josaphat Kuntsevych, Jorge Matulaitis, Faustina Kowalska, and Michael Sopocko. The image of Our Lady of Siluva, Lithuania’s national Marian icon will have a special place. Three relics (St. Casimir, St. Therese and Blessed Teofilius Matulionis) given to the church will be available for veneration on especially designed reliquaries.
Interior painting of the nave is finished. The choir loft is complimented with Christian symbols, while the Stations of the Cross have been repaired and refurbished. They are now properly placed in every enhanced frame. Work on the confessionals, have started and the church flooring has been replaced with refurbished pews ready for delivery.
We have refurbished the retablo and preserved its natural wood. The background of the big Cross is painted in gold with Lithuanian "jousta" patterns. The sanctuary/altar area is being renovated according to liturgical standards and approved by the Archdiocesan Committee on Worship and Liturgy. The area will be repainted, cleaned and a new carpet will be installed. There will be a new altar with coordinated furnishings (presider chair, ambo, cantor lectern, acolytes benches, and credence tables), designed and manufactured by Jefferson Tortorelli, Modern Liturgy Visual Arts national awardee.
Together we renew our physical structure for worship that it may enhance our encounter with God, inspire and bring closer our families. Your prayers, generosity and sacrifice will ensure our success.
