On September 8, 1956, Pope Pius XII decreed the canonical crown to the original image Virgen de los Remedios in Pampanga, Philippines. With the intercession of the Blessed Mother, the province was saved from communism; the gap between rich and poor brought about by World War II diminished and families continued to live in harmony. They turn to Virgen de los Remedios in times of natural disasters, sickness and other personal difficulties. The beloved Virgen de los Remedios is always present and interceding for their needs. She keeps them under her maternal care and never fails to bring them to her Son, Jesus. Clark Air Base, which used to be the largest military establishment outside the US and located in Pampanga established common friendships between Kapampangans and Americans. They have become the biggest Filipino minority in America and brought replicas of Virgen de los Remedios and Santo Cristo del Perdon to LA which are permanently enshrined at St. Casimir's Church for private prayers and devotions during the year. For almost two decades now, expats in Southern California and those from other states come together at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels for the annual canonical coronation anniversary celebration. All are invited to participate in the pre-liturgy procession and Mass.
